August Osage County Wins 5 2008 Tony Awards – a Steppenwolf Theater Play

august osage county, tony awards, chicago, steppenwolf, theater, win, tracy lettsI am so excited to see that August Osage County has won 4 Tony Awards this year since it is an amazing play that had it’s start right here in Chicago at the Steppenwolf Theater. I saw this shocking and yet riveting play last summer in 2007 in it’s run at Steppenwolf Theater on the north side of Chicago.  What is interesting is that there are so few new plays being written and performed these days and this one competes with the classics and really is a gripping quality piece of theater.

When I saw August: Osage County was transfixed for 3+ hours as the lives of this extended family unraveled right in front of our very eyes. It is somehow relate-able in the beginning of the play but by mid-play you know something very different is going on here and you buckle your seat-belt for a bumpy ride.

Anyway, I know it’s not regular for me to post 3 times in a day, but I wanted to post this since it is from a local great writer Tracy Letts who has another play running right now at Steppenwolf Theater. Check out Steppenwolftheater.org for more info and to buy tickets to the new play.  The Tony Awards that they won are listed below. Congratulations to the entire cast and crew as well as Steppenwolf Theater and Tracy Letts!
